Overview
Into the Volcano is an immersive experience at the Perlan Museum in Reykjavík. I joined near the end of production to clean and retouch high-resolution photographic resources for one scene, before their integration by the team.
My Contribution
- Cleaned and retouched 16K photographic textures on a high-resolution mesh, removing unwanted visual elements.
- Established a working method using Photoshop and BodyPaint in Cinema 4D to carry out the cleanup, and wrote instructions to support my work.
- Prepared the cleaned resources for handoff before their integration into the final environment.
Pipeline
- Review of the photographic resources
- Setup of the Photoshop / BodyPaint workflow
- Targeted cleanup and retouching
- Preparation for handoff
Technical Challenges
- Challenge — working with 16K textures on a high-resolution mesh exceeded the practical limits of Substance Painter for this task.
- Production response — I established a cleanup workflow combining Photoshop and BodyPaint in Cinema 4D, with written instructions for the steps involved.
- Result — this method allowed me to carry out the photographic cleanup with the tools available.
Recognition
- Prix NUMIX 2026 — Winner, International · Exhibition
Project Impact
