Overview

Presented at the SAT in Montréal, this fulldome film brings Jacques Hurtubise’s paintings into an immersive audiovisual experience, with music by Hippie Hourrah. My contribution involved animation rigs, animated sequences and compositing within the team’s production.

My Contribution
  • Developed reusable animation rigs for the neon-light sequences so large groups of bulbs could be directed without losing the irregular energy of the source artwork.
  • Prepared and animated mapped window sequences and digital interpretations of Hurtubise paintings.
  • Composited the fulldome material, including visual-delay treatments and timing adjustments required for synchronization across the dome.
  • Worked through motion and pacing decisions with director Tommy Caron so the animation supported the music without becoming mechanically repetitive.
Pipeline
  • Artwork preparation and mapped animation
  • Reusable neon-light rigging
  • Music-led timing studies
  • Fulldome compositing
  • Dome synchronization and technical integration
Technical Challenges
  • Challenge — hundreds of animated lights and layered artworks had to feel coordinated across the dome while preserving the tension and spontaneity of Hurtubise’s visual language.
  • Production response — reusable rigs organized the light animation, while mapped sequences and delay-based compositing were timed as connected layers rather than isolated shots.
  • Production impact — the system supported iteration on rhythm and synchronization without rebuilding each element individually.
Research & Development
  • Camera and motion-rhythm studies were developed through repeated exchanges with director Tommy Caron, searching for timing rules that could support the score while leaving room for variation.
Project Impact

The production connected painting, light and music through a shared timing structure designed for the spatial demands of fulldome projection.
